Veltman, an author who can rightfully be considered one of the first science fiction writers, whose works express an attitude towards the fantastic as a conscious creative strategy. The features of the plot of the novel Koschei Bessmertny (1833) are analyzed, it is noted that the fantastic manifests itself at different plot and narrative levels and indicates the author’s original use of folklore and mythological imagery, which does not duplicate the established techniques of late romanticism.
